Easy Grade Pro is a suite of software designed for educators at all grade levels and institutions who want powerful but easy to use tools to manage their student grade, attendance and other information. This suite consists of software for desktop and handheld computers.

Finding an SMTP server to use with Easy Grade Pro 4.0

There are many SMTP (email) servers through which Easy Grade Pro 4.0 can successfully send emails because it has been designed to support the most common protocols for emailing. It is likely that an SMTP server that you already have access to through your school or ISP will work. If not, there are some free and very inexpensive providers available. Here is some information about the SMTP servers that won't work, ones that likely will work followed by some recommended servers.

Most of the free SMTP servers won't work.

Most of the free SMTP servers such as Yahoo, Hotmail, gmail and others won't work. These are purposefully limited or use less-common protocols for emailing. In some cases, the companies that provide the free SMTP servers also provide fee-based SMTP servers that will work (i.e. Yahoo). AOL now offers a smtp server for emailing that is free and does work (see below).

Your school-provided SMTP server will work in most cases.

In many cases, the SMTP email servers used in schools can accept emails sent by Easy Grade Pro 4.0. Many schools use Microsoft Exchange and First Class for emailing. Easy Grade Pro can email through these but they may have be set up by the school tech person to accept emails from Easy Grade Pro (i.e. handle relaying, turn on standard authentication).Talk with your school's tech support person and ask for the server address (i.e. smtp.mail.com), your authentication Account ID and Password. Ask if the SMTP port is the default 25 or some other number.

Nearly all fee-based ISPs will work.

Earthlink, Comcast and most other fee-based ISPs (internet service providers) will work. Check the documentation that came with your subscription for the proper settings. Check the account settings in your current email program. The settings you need for Easy Grade Pro will likely be the same or very similar.

Teacher Email	You must use the AOL email address created during sign-up. Replies to emailed reports will come to the AOL address.	You must use the Fatcow email address created during sign-up. Account ID	Use your AOL email address with domain ((i.e. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) as your Account ID.	Use your Fatcow email address as your Account ID. To set up or view your email address: Go to www.fatcow.com Log into Fatcow with your account and password. Click the Control Panel button. Click the MANAGE EMAIL button. If you already have an email address, you will see it listed. Otherwise, click the CREATE MAILBOX button and follow the prompts.	Use your Yahoo! ID that you created during signup. This is the same text that you enter when you log into your account. If you have your browser set to automatically log you in, you can view your Yahoo! ID following these steps: Go to http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com/. Click the MY ACCOUNT button. Enter your password if asked. You'll see a list of your account settings including your Yahoo! ID Use the Yahoo! ID as your Account ID in Easy Grade Pro.

Other		Limited to sending 200 emails per hour and 2000 emails per day.	If you get an error message, try setting the SMTP port to 587 instead of 25.

Make sure your Internet Security software doesn't block Easy Grade Pro

If you use internet security software that restricts which programs can access the internet, be sure to set it to permit Easy Grade Pro to access the internet. Otherwise, you may receive an Email Server is not responding properly error message when you attempt to email your reports even when all of your settings are correct.
