EGP Clipboard FAQs

Listed below are the most Frequently Asked technical support Questions from EGP Clipboard users. You may wish to print this document for future reference.

1. Are there any upates available for EGP Clipboard?

Please click here for update information.

2. FAQ: Does EGP Clipboard work on Windows Mobile handhelds?

No. It requires a handheld running Palm OS. However, Pocket EGP is currently available for Windows Mobile handhelds. You can find information on Pocket EGP here.

3. FAQ: Why do I get an error message when I try to install EGP Clipboard to my computer?

The EGP Clipboard installer will report an error message if your computer does not have Palm Desktop software already installed. Before installing EGP Clipboard, be sure to install the Palm Desktop software that came on the CD with your Palm handheld.

4. FAQ: Why do I get an 'invalid number' when I enter the registration number into EGP Clipboard?

Make sure that you aren't entering your Easy Grade Pro registration number. EGP Clipboard and Easy Grade Pro are separate programs; each has its own license and registration number. If you click the USE KEYBOARD button but it doesn't appear, click first on the horizontal line above button until you see the flashing caret. Then click the USE KEYBOARD button.

5. FAQ: My Easy Grade Pro classes are not syncing to my handheld. What's wrong?

First of all, make sure that you are using the right versions of EGP Clipboard and Easy Grade Pro. EGP Clipboard 1.0 can only be used with Easy Grade Pro 3.6. EGP Clipboard 4.0 can only be used with Easy Grade Pro 4.0. Then please try these general trouble-shooting steps:

  • Check the User Name. Turn on your Palm OS handheld. Click on the Home button to get to the main screen. Find the HotSync icon and click on it. In the upper-right corner, you should see your Handheld’s name. Now start up your Palm Desktop software on your Desktop computer. Press on the HOTSYNC menu at the top of the window and choose CUSTOM (if using Windows) or CONDUIT SETTINGS (if using a mac). In the window that opens, check the User name and see that it matches the Handheld name. If not, press on the menu and choose the correct name.
  • Check the Conduit. The conduit is the program that does the syncing between the handheld and the desktop gradebooks. Below the USER NAME in the last step, look in the list of conduits below for EGP CLIPBOARD CONDUIT. If you don't see it, then reinstall EGP Clipboard from the install CD (or install file) and check again. Quit.
  • Check EGP Clipboard. Start up your handheld and click the Home button. Look for EGP Clipboard. If you don't see it, please refer to the installation instructions for info on how to install EGP Clipboard to your handheld. Once you see it, click on its icon and, if necessary, enter the registration number. Then press on the Gradebook menu and choose ABOUT THIS GRADEBOOK. You'll see the name of the last gradebook synced and the time.
  • Check Easy Grade Pro. Open your Easy Grade Pro gradebook and choose PALM SETUP from the File menu. If syncing is not turned on, turn it on. If the user name is present but doesn't match the user name of your handheld, click the RESET USER button. Check all other settings and make sure that you have selected at least one class from the list. Click Done.
  • Check your Classes. Now, view each of your classes in your Easy Grade Pro gradebook that you want to sync to your handheld and make sure that each has at least one student and one assignment. Add these as necessary. Quit.
  • Try syncing and look for a message. Put the handheld in its cradle and press the hotsync button. Keep an eye on your Desktop computer's monitor and the Hotsync progress window. Watch for EGP Clipboard. More importantly, at the end of the syncing process, look to see if the hotsync software is trying to alert you a message logged by one or more of the conduits. If so, click the VIEW LOG button and read the message log. If there was a problem with EGP Clipboard, it will let you know what it was.
6. FAQ: Why can't I view the Attendance Chart in EGP Clipboard?

Open your Easy Grade Pro gradebook. Choose Palm Setup from the File menu. Make sure you have the INCLUDE ATTENDANCE option turned on. Quit and sync. You should now be able to view the attendance chart and record attendance on your handheld.

7. FAQ: How do I switch classes on my handheld to my new term's classes?

Open your Easy Grade Pro gradebook. Choose Palm Setup from the File menu. Deselect your prior term classes. Select the classes in your new term. Quit and sync.

8. FAQ: How do I sync more than sixteen classes to EGP Clipboard?

EGP Clipboard is limited to sixteen classes. However, since you are unlikely to teach more than sixteen classes in a day, there is a simple solution: before the start of each day, open your Easy Grade Pro gradebook, choose Palm Setup from the File menu and select only the classes that you will be teaching that day. Quit and sync. Your handheld will have all the classes you need for that day.

9. FAQ: How do I view my students' overall grades in EGP Clipboard?

Click on any student's name in the list. In the window that appears, you can view the Overall Grade at the time of the last sync at the bottom.

10. FAQ: Can I sync EGP Clipboard to both my home and school computers?

We strongly recommend that you not do this. EGP Clipboard must always be synced to your current gradebook. If you sync to a gradebook that is not your current gradebook, you may lose all changes that you have made to EGP Clipboard since the last sync. You can sync at home and school but only if you move your current gradebook first to the computer where you will sync and choose Palm Setup from the File menu to ensure that it is properly set up for syncing at that location.
